A calmer way to talk about food

Thaw is a solo therapy practice for adults who eat to cope, eat past comfortable, or feel pulled between control and letting go. Nothing here involves a scale or a number.

Who this is for

No weights, no numbers

Thaw is for adults whose eating is tied to stress, loneliness or the wish to feel in control. You do not need to know what to call it.

  • No weighing

We never ask for your weight and there is no scale in the room. If your doctor tracks your weight, that stays between you and your doctor.

  • No numbers

No calories, no portions, no goal weight and no food log to hand in.

  • No good and bad foods

We talk about what eating does for you, and what else might, not about which foods are allowed.

  • No hurry to label it

You can start without a diagnosis or a name for it. We begin with what you notice.

Services

Three ways we work together

All three happen in your weekly sessions with Dalila, in person in Concord or by video.

  • An open book and a pen on a soft knitted blanket

    Individual therapy

One-on-one, 50 minutes. We look at when eating becomes the way you cope, and what else could help.

  • Friends passing dishes around an outdoor dinner table

    Food and body image

For the thoughts about food, bodies and being good that run in the background. No meal plans and no rules.

    Working with your care team

If you also see a doctor or a registered dietitian, we can share a plan with them, with your written permission.

How it works

Slow, steady and in your hands

There is no program at Thaw and no plan to follow. You and Dalila go at the speed that is yours.

  • Weekly to start

Most people begin weekly. Dalila sets the pace with you, and we do not promise a number of sessions.

  • You choose what to talk about

Some weeks it is a meal, some weeks it is a hard day. Both belong here.

  • Your information is kept private

We keep your records private and share them only as the law allows.

What we do, and what we do not do

Dalila uses cognitive behavioral and acceptance-based approaches, in plain words and at your pace.

Together you look at what happens before, during and after an urge to eat: what you were feeling, what you needed and what else could meet that need. Nothing is graded and nothing is a test.

What this is not

Therapy at Thaw is not a diet, a meal plan or nutrition counseling, and Dalila does not give medical advice. If you want a registered dietitian or a doctor on your team, we can help you find them and work alongside them.

When weekly therapy is not enough

If you feel physically unwell, or your eating has begun to affect your body, we will help you find more support. Call your doctor, and in an emergency call 911.

How fees work

The answers to what nearly everyone asks before a first session.

  • Insurance we work with

Thaw is in network with some commercial plans and out of network with the rest. Ask which group yours is in before you book. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid. Nutrition counseling with a registered dietitian is a separate service, and many plans cover it only with a medical diagnosis or limit the visits, so ask your plan before you add one.

    • In network with some commercial plans

    • Out of network with the rest

    • No Medicare or Medicaid

    • Dietitian visits are often covered only with a diagnosis

  • If you pay yourself

If you pay yourself, you pay at the end of each session by card, including HSA and FSA cards. There is no contract and no payment in advance. The fee depends on the length of the session: 60 minutes for the first, 50 for the rest. Your fee is given to you in writing before you start. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open; ask how to request one. We ask for 24 hours' notice to change an appointment.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

Each month we give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) with the dates and the kind of session, to send to your plan, which may reimburse part of out-of-network care. It carries a diagnosis code your plan can see. Your plan decides whether it pays anything; ask it before you start.

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one before the first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

  • Checking your benefits

For the plans we are in network with, we check your benefits before the first session and tell you what we find. For any other plan, call it first and ask about out-of-network outpatient mental health benefits.

  • What the first visit includes

The first session is 60 minutes. Dalila explains how she works, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and she listens. No one weighs you or asks for a number.

Questions

What nearly everyone asks

Do you take my insurance?

We are in network with some commercial plans and out of network with the rest. Ask us which group yours is in before you book. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid. If you pay yourself, we give you an itemized receipt in case your plan reimburses.

What is a Good Faith Estimate?

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We give you one before the first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

What happens in the first session?

It lasts 60 minutes. Dalila explains how she works, the limits of confidentiality and the possible risks and benefits of therapy, and she listens. No one weighs you or asks for a number. At the end you decide together whether to continue.

Will anyone weigh me?

No. We do not weigh you, measure you or ask for your weight. If your doctor tracks your weight, that stays between you and your doctor.

Are you licensed where I live?

Dalila is licensed in New Hampshire. By video we see people who are in New Hampshire during the session. If you are elsewhere, we cannot see you, and we will help you find someone licensed where you live.

What do I do in a crisis?

Call or text 988, any time. In an emergency, call 911. This site and our messages are not monitored around the clock.
